Process

When any of the alert parameters have been met, we will send a message through your selected notification method (automated phone call, text message or email) describing the alert and client name. When you answer the phone, the message will first tell you the client’s name associated with the alert. You can use the legend under “Alerts” to determine which alert has been sent. If any part of the message is missed, you can use the text message as a backup. All of the information from the automated phone message will be repeated in the text message.

Restoral Messages

Alarm.com sends a restoral message after the “Away From Bed”, “Still in Bed” and “Up and About” alert ends. For an “Away From Bed” alert, a restoral message will be sent when the client has returned to their bed. For a “Still in Bed” alert, a restoral message will be sent after the client has left their bed. For an “Up and About” alert, a restoral message will be sent after activity resumes in the home. The restoral notice allows you to close the loop on an event and have proper documentation that the issue is resolved.

Built in Notification: Up And About

Find out when there has been a long period of no activity at home. Long periods of inactivity could indicate that someone has fallen or stopped moving for another reason. This notification can be customized by the caregiver and set to notify them when no one has moved for x minutes/hours during a set period of time. For example, set the system to send a notification when no motion is detected for 2 hours during the timeframe of 8 am and 10 pm.
Equipment used: Motion sensors placed in the most used living spaces

Potential nighttime fall or event

Built in Notification: Away From Bed

Be notified when someone leaves the bed for a long period of time and doesn't return.
When the bed is unoccupied for long periods of time it may indicate that someone has fallen or stopped moving for another reason while using the restroom at night. This notification can be customized by the caregiver and set to notify them when the bed pressure sensor remains unoccupied for x minutes/hours during a set period of time. For example, set the system to send a notification when the bed pressure sensor is unoccupied 2 hours during the time frame of 11 pm and 7 am.

Potential illness or other event

Built in Notification: Still In Bed

Be notified if the bed sensor is still occupied at an unusual time. When the bed remains occupied for an extended period of time that is outside the normal range it may indicate that someone is ill or has remained in bed for another reason. This notification can be customized by the caregiver and set to notify them when the bed pressure sensor remains occupied beyond the normal wake up time. For example, set the system to send a notification when the bed pressure sensor is still occupied for 1 hour after the normal wake up time of 8 am.

Potential nighttime wandering or unsecured home

Built in Notification: Safe Inside

Find out when an exterior door is opened at an unusual time. If wandering and/or cognitive decline is a concern, the safe inside notification can be set to notify a caregiver when an exterior door opens at an unexpected time. For example if mom normally goes to bed at 10 pm and gets up at 8 am, a notification can be set to notify a caregiver if the front door opens during that time and potentially remains open. This notification could be combined with door locks to ensure the parent is safe inside the home during nighttime hours with the door locked. Another potential is to combine with the bed pressure sensor to notify if the bed is occupied and the door is unlocked.

Healthy Eating Habits/Nutrition and Regular Meals and Snacks

Custom notification: Refrigerator door open/close frequency

If eating regular meals is a concern, a door sensor can be placed on the refrigerator to track open/close of the refrigerator door. Caregivers can set up a custom notification to notify them when the refrigerator door and or pantry door is opened during the daytime hours. This will provide information about the frequency of meals and snacks as well as the meal times.

Sedentary lifestyle

Custom notification: Chair remains occupied for extended period of time

Find out when someone remains in their favorite chair for extended periods of time. Sedentary lifestyle is one of the major indicators for wellness. From foggy brain, to back trouble, to organ deterioration – an active life helps improve wellness overall. A family can agree that sitting for a couple hours a day to watch a favorite show is okay, but sitting for 6-8 hours is not. The bed pressure/chair sensor can be set to notify caregivers when the chair remains occupied for longer than x hours a day during a specific time period.

Severe Weather

Bathroom Frequency: Frequent trips to the bathroom – especially combined with interrupted sleep patterns can indicate UTI or a change of medication may need to be reviewed/adjusted. Equipment – motion sensor and/or door sensor on the bathroom door combined with bed pressure sensor
Medication adherence: If compliance to taking medication is a concern, a door sensor can be placed on the cabinet where medications are stored. Combine this with a custom notification and know the likelihood that pills are being taken on schedule.
Home temperature in healthy range: Smart thermostat used to notify caregivers when the home temperature is out of the normal healthy range. For example, if the house temperature is below 68 degrees or over 80 degrees notify family.
